As groups of Israelites returned to Jerusalem, they realized that the first thing that had to be done was the rebuilding of the altar and temple. They understood the centrality of worship and sacrifice in their daily lives as they sought to put God first in everything. Through diligent work, sacrificial obedience, and faithfulness to the word of God, they were able to restore some of the rhythms of worship for their community of faith. In this season of rebuilding, we are being invited and encouraged to rebuild our personal, family, and community altars in order to come back to the heart of worship and be people who worship the Lord in Spirit and truth. Will you answer the call to rebuild like Zerubbabel did?
